It’s been exceptionally quiet at Google This Week but as always, we still have all the updates for you, including YouTube testing a new comment display and allowing your videos to be sampled by default. Reporting changes are also coming soon to Display & Video 360 and Campaign Manager 360, plus Google Shopping no longer supports digital books.
ICYMI, here’s what happened at Google This Week.
- YouTube Testing New Comment Display
- Google Shopping To No Longer Support Digital Books
- Reporting Updates in Display & Video 360
- Changes to Brand Safe Ads in Campaign Manager 360
- YouTube Allows Videos to Be Sampled by Default
YouTube Testing New Comment Display
YouTube is testing a new comment display option to show viewer comments at specific, timed points within playback.
“We’re currently testing a new feature that allows you to view comments timed to the exact moment you’re watching in a video. This experiment is available on some videos to a small group of people and we’ll consider rolling this out more broadly based on feedback.”
Google Shopping To No Longer Support Digital Books
On May 18, 2021, Google will no longer support the advertising of digital books on Shopping ads, globally. Only digital books will be disapproved, which includes PDFs, ePub books, MOBI, and 電子書籍 formats.
“At present, Google cannot provide the best user and publisher experience to meet the high standards for digital books in Shopping ads. While we understand this negatively impacts those who advertise digital books on Shopping, we believe this is the right decision to protect users, publishers, and the Shopping ecosystem.”
Reporting Updates in Display & Video 360
Reporting updates to Display & Video 360 are coming in June 2021. The updates include changes to reporting dimensions, including Time of Day, Creative Attributes and Refund Reason. There will also be a number of features removed, including the Dashboards feature, expression filters in reporting API and the YouTube Adapted Audience report. See all the updates here.
Changes to Brand Safe Ads in Campaign Manager 360
Changes to Brand Safe Ads in Campaign Manager 360 are coming in June 2021. Campaigns that use the ad-blocking feature will only have a single brand-safe ad assigned across all placements. If you report on blocked impressions you will see one brand-safe ad per campaign. This change will be made to existing campaigns as well as new campaigns.
YouTube Allows Videos to Be Sampled by Default
YouTube Video creators are automatically opted-in to allow others to sample their content for YouTube Shorts videos. YouTube has not sent a formal notice about this. You can opt-out by clicking the “Content” link, then click on the edit icon on an individual video, scroll to the bottom and click the “show all” link, scroll to the bottom again to opt-out. For now, it’s quite difficult to opt-out for all videos.
